Ivan Sheha, member of the Belarusian Popular Front’s Slonim office, has received two formal replies from the local prosecutor’s office.

The activist appealed an incident of 8 October, when he was stopped by the road police and taken to the local police station. Meanwhile, no charges were brought against him, and he was eventually released three hours later. One of the official letters said his complaint had been redirected to the prosecutor’s office of a different district.

The other complaint dealt with a ban imposed on a picket of solidarity with the imprisoned Viasna leader Ales Bialiatski. The ban was received by the applicant only a day before its scheduled date, which is a violation of the Mass Events Code. As a result, the reply from the prosecuting authorities said that “chair of the Slonim executive committee has been informed about the necessity of a strict observance of the provisions of Art. 6 of the Mass Events Code.”
