Vileika human rights defender receives negative reply to his complaint
Vileika human rights defender Uladzimir Maliarchuk has received a negative reply to his complaint of police-related violence and poor detention conditions in local detention center, where he had to spend 5 days for involvement in a “silent protest”.
The activist says the treatment he experienced in the detention center can be viewed as torture, as the detainee was deprived of numerous basic legal rights and sanitary standards. In particular, Mr. Maliarchuk was not allowed receiving food and water parcels, while the water in the cell was undrinkable. He was also denied legal assistance.
Mr. Maliarchuk believes the conditions were created in order to humiliate his dignity, which can be considered as discrimination on political grounds and torture.
