Court bans Bialiatski’s meeting with wife
Minsk court has not authorized Ales Bialiatski’s meeting with his wife ahead of the trial he is to stand on 2 November, Radio Racyja reports.
“I submitted an application to the judge, and today I received a ban. I wanted to see my husband and they did not allow me,” says Ales Bialiatski’s wife Natallia.
No representatives of the European Parliament are expected to attend the trial, as the Belarusian authorities are not likely to let them enter the country, says Polish MEP Marek Migalski.
“I am going to monitor the issue and inform my colleagues on the trial and its compliance with the basic standards for a fair trial. As far as I know, no representatives of the European Parliament will be there, just because they will not be let inside Belarus, just like I was not allowed entering the country a few weeks ago. However, we a re going to watch it over, and we are also urging journalists to provide information, so that we could voice it at the forum of the European Parliament,” says Mr. Migalski.
