“Young Front” activists detained for attack on Communist rally
A group of young people threw eggs at the
monument to Lenin and participants of the rally held by the official Belarusian
Communist Party on Nezalezhnasts Square in Minsk. Activists were chanting “Stop
Communism” and “Tribunal for Communism”, Nasha Niva newspaper informs. After a
small clash with demonstrators, the guys were detained by plainclothes
policemen.
Two of the detained are “Young Front” activists Raman
Vasiliieu and Mikhail Muski. The name of the third detainee is unknown.
Belarus still celebrates 7 November, the day of the October Revolution.
Representatives of the authorities and communists lay flowers to Lenin
monuments and Aliaksandr Lukashenka extends official congratulations. About 100
people gathered at 10 am for a rally of the official Communist Party. Members
of the pro-opposition Party of Left “Fair World” laid flowers to the monument
at 11 a.m.
