Vitsebsk: Aliaksandr Kirylau detained and beaten
Aliaksandr Kirylau, Chairman of the Vitsebsk branch of
the Belarusian Conservative Party “Belaya Rus”, which is being created by the
ex-presidential candidate Siarhei Ryzhou, was detained in the local employment
center, where he was registered as an unemployed. He still cannot find a job,
though he has a number of qualifications: economist, accountant, insurance
agent and hairdresser. Being an orphan, Aliaksandr Kirylau has no means for
life.
The detainee was taken to the Kastrychnitski District Police Department of
Vitsebsk. Siarhei Ryzhou thinks that the detention is connected with Kirylau's
political activities.
“We decided to address the people of Belarus with the proposal to
boycott the parliamentary election in 2012 and start a political strike on 19
December 2011. This decision was reached unanimously. We planned to publish it
today, that's why I am not surprised at today's detention of the head of the
Vitsebsk branch of our party,” commented Ryzhou.
According to him, Kirylau was accused of insult of state officials and
insubordination to the police. Siarhei Ryzhou also says he can be detained too.
On 11 November Aliaksandr Kirylau stated that he was beaten by the riot police
after the detention. He also applied to the forensic expertise to register the
beating.
