Brest authorities ban 10 December rally
As we have already written, on 6 December Natallia
Selekh, Brest prosecutor, issued an official warning to Zinaida Mikhniuk, head
of the Brest department of the Trade Union of Radio Electronic Industry, for a
rally appointed on 10 December.
The matter is that Mikhniuk mentioned filing applications for the authorization
of the rally in her interviews with Radio “Liberty” and Radio “Racyja”, which was
considered as “preparation to the rally”.
According to the law, Zinaida Mikhniuk was to have received an answer from the
authorities five days before the action, on 5 December. However, she received
answer only in the evening of 6 December, after getting the warning. It's quite
interesting that the procuracy knew about the action ban earlier that the
applicant.
The official reason for the ban is that some “mournful event will take place in
the park of soldiers-internationalists with participation of a delegation from
Nizhniy Novgorod”. However, according to the answer the mournful event will
take place at 10.30 – 11.00
a.m., whereas the rally was to have taken place at 1.00
– 3.00 p.m. As far as it was banned, Zinaida Mikhniuk is going to join the
mournful event which was mentioned by the Brest City Executive Committee.
