The Baranavichy City Executive Committee denied civil
activist Ryhor Makarevich in holding a picket in the old city park on 17
December. By means of this action Makarevich wanted to morally support the
people who were in a hard economic situation due to the crisis.
According to answer of the Baranavichy CEC #01-15/866, signed by its deputy
head, V. Lazitski, the application couldn't be satisfied as it “doesn't
correspond to requirements of the Law of the Republic of Belarus of 30 December
1997 “About Mass Events” (edition of 8 November 2011 #308-3).
It is the 14th picket in turn, banned by the Baranavichy authorities. The
activist intends to apply to the procuracy concerning the violation of his
constitutional rights.
