Astravets district: pressurization of Mikalai Ulasevich increases
Some leaflets with
libelous information concerning the activist of the civil initiative
“Construction of Astravets Nuclear Power Plant is a crime!” Mikalai Ulasevich
have been distributed in Ashmiany and Astravets. The leaflets are printed on
behalf of the civil initiative “Nash Dom” and addressed to ordinary citizens.
Mr. Ulasevich is declared a member of “Nash Dom” and accused of stealing some
money, swindling. His honest civil activism is described as “chicanery and an
opportunity to get good profits”.
At the end of November Mr. Ulasevich was hospitalized with a heart attack. As a
result, the trial on the lawsuit of the local pro-governmental entrepreneur
Andrei Dziatko, which was to have taken place on 30 November, was postponed.
The pasquinade also tells people about the “thief Ulasevich” who “rests in
hospitals at the people's expense”.
Regional human rights defenders have no doubts in the relatio of the local
authorities to these leaflets and don't count on the assistance of police in
finding their authors.
By the way, the real reason for the trial of Mikalai Ulasevich is his appeal
against the abuse of office powers by the Chairman of the Astravets District
Executive Committee, Adam Kavalko. The appeal was directed to the General
Procuracy and the Security Council in April 2011. As a result, one of the
persons mentioned in the appeal, Andrei Dziadko, who, to Ulasevich’s mind,
repeatedly received preferences from Kavalko, sued Ulasevich.
