The activists of the
organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party Zmitser
Shurkhai and Aliaksei Charkashyn were detained by road police at the entrance
to Brest.
According to the BCD press-service, the policemen told the activists that their
car was allegedly wanted on suspicion in knocking down a pedestrian in Minsk. The detainees were
taken to the Maskouski District Police Department of Brest for expertise.
Shurkhai thinks that the detention was conducted in order to prevent them from
taking part in the constituent assembly, which will take place on 17 December
in Minsk. He
thinks that they can be detained for up to three days for “identification”.
