On 14 December the Mahiliou Region Court
turned down the appeal of Liudmila Kavylkina and Larysa Shukaila, observers of
the election campaign “For Free Elections!” against the verdict of the Leninski
District Court of Mahiliou.
The matter is that the observers had accused the head of the head of an
election commission Iryna Ziamtsova of being in inebriated state during the Election
Day, 19 December. Ziamtsova sued the observers. As a result, the Leninski
District Court of Mahiliou sentenced them to pay fines of 525,000 rubles. Ziamtsova
exacted 300,000 from each of the women with the court assistance. The
counter-claim, filed by Liudmila Kavylkina and Larysa Shukaila, was declined.
