Ministry of Justice denies registration to major LGBT organization
The Alternatyva Plus LGBT nation-wide organization has been denied state registration by the Ministry of Justice, say the association’s founders.
The official ban signed by Justice Ministry official Mrs. Alena Kirychenka argues that the organization’s founders failed to specify the correct birthday of one of its 61 co-founders. Besides, the applications misspelled the name of another co-founder of Alternatyva Plus.
“The desktop approach of the Ministry’s ban is apparent. The decision may be appealed at the Supreme Court. In early 2012, we are going to hold another founding congress to approve the amended documents and apply for registration again”, says Siarhei Androsenka, chair of the Minsk Gay Pride organizing committee.
Alternatyva Plus’ Charter says the association will pursue human rights, information and social activities, promoting the development of “safe and comfortable conditions for LGBT activist and their close ones”, and decreasing the level of homophobia.
