Vitsebsk police question wife of Siarhei Kavalenka
Mrs. Alena Kavalenka, the wife of Vitsebsk activist of the Christian Conservative Party “Belarusian Popular Front” Siarhei Kavalenka, who is currently facing criminal charges for alleged violation of parole restrictions, has been interrogated by local police, the Nasha Niva newspaper reports.
“The investigator asked me about Siarhei’s jobs and the incidents he was prosecuted for: the case with the white-red-white flag and our being late after we were summoned to the prosecutor’s office. However, he did not put down what I was speaking about; so I asked him to correct it”, says Mrs. Kavalenka.
She also asked about her husband’s health and the prison’s administration officials said he was all right and would not go to hospital.
Siarhei Kavalenka has been in custody since 22 December. Shortly after his arrest, he started a hunger strike as a protest against the criminal charges. The prison doctors started to forcibly feed him a few days ago.
