Mahiliou human rights centre may stop working
The reason is financial conditions set by the local authorities.
Uladzimir Krauchanka, the director of the human rights centre, says all other measures taken by the authorities to close down the organization were unsuccessful, Viasna human rights centre writes.
“Mahiliou human rights centre is the only human rights organization in Mahiliou. The authorities are angry, because we do not allow them to live a quiet life and demand to solve problems of people. The ideology department of the city executive committee forbade us to change the terms of the agreement to rent the registered office. This is another attempt to get rid of the organization,” Uladzimir Krauchanka says.
According to the human rights activist, the authorities want the centre to move to a large office with higher rental fees.
Uladzimir Krauchanka says the only way out for the human rights centre is turning to court.
