Wives of independent trade union activists fired from “Granite”
Activists of the independent trade union at the
Mikashevichy-based granite producing enterprise think it is an attempt to apply
pressure on them.
There have been two such dismissals, RFE/RL reports. The wife of trade union
secretary Anatol Litvinka was fired
without offering a new position. The woman worked as a typist in the
secretarial office replacing an employee on maternity leave. According to the
trade union activist, the woman was supposed to be on maternity leave two years
more, but the company asked her to go to work immediately.
Another trade union activist has faced a similar situation. His wife worked as
a gate-keeper replacing an employee on parental leave.
Bear in mind that several hundreds of “Granite” company employees applied for
leaving the official trade union at the end of last year. They protested
against low wages, offensive attitude towards them by the management and
inactivity of the official trade union.
