Ex-political prisoner Mikita Likhavid searched on Belarusian border
Former
political prisoner Mikita Likhavid and his mother Alena were searched on the
Belarusian-Lithuanian border for 6 hours, RFE/RL reports.
Pproblems began during the passport control, when border guards took Mikita's
passport for an additional check. They were consulting on their walkie-talkies
for a long time waiting for orders.
After that, Likhavid's car was searched in a special
garage and passengers underwent personal search. Mikita was taken to the
customs room in a company of two men in mufti.
Customs officers found a flash drive of Alena Likhavid. The woman demanded to
examine the device in her presence. Customs officers failed to find something
criminal.
The thorough search lasted for over six hours. The customs chief refused to say
the reason of the search.
Alena Likhavid thinks the recent problems democratic activists faced when
exiting or entering the country confirms the existence of a blacklist of
opposition activists.
