Preventive supervision can be established over Uladzimir Yaromenak

On 11 March the Leninski District Court of Mijnsk found Uladzimir Yaromenak guilty under Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Violations (violation of the rules of holding mass events) and sentenced him to 15 days of arrest for participation in a performance near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, during which unknown youngsters had thrown rolls of toilet paper at the ministry's building.

On 22 February the Vitsebsk District Court tried him in absentia. The activist was sentenced to 3 days of arrest under Article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Violations, "disorderly conduct" (he allegedly used foul language towards the road policemen who stopped the car by which he and his friends were driving to the trial of Siarhei Kavalenka).

He was also sentenced to 15 days of arrest for participation in an action of solidarity with political prisoners, held on 19 December 2011, and to 12 days of arrest – for an attempt to hang out white-red-white flags in Minsk on 19 September 2011.

Before this, on 14 May 2011 the Partyzanski District Court of Minsk sentenced Mr. Yaromenak to 3 years of imprisonment under Article 293, part 2 of the Criminal Code (participation in mass riot). He served his term in penal colony "Vitsba" near Vitsebsk and was pardoned by a president's decree on 11 August 2011.

According to the legislation, preventive supervision can be established over a person released on parole in the case of three and more violations of the law during a year. The hearings concerning the establishment of the preventive supervision over Mr. Yaromenak will start at the Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk at 2 p.m. on 15 March.
