Preventive supervision established over ex-political prisoner Uladzimir Yaromenak

On 15 March the Pershamaiski District Court established the preventive supervision over former political prisoner, activist of the "Young Front" Uladzimir Yaromenak.

The case was considered by Judge Siarhei Bandarenka who had sentenced the head of the HRC "Viasna" Ales Bialiatski to 4.5 years in jail on 24 November 2011.

Mr. Yaromenak was taken to court in hand-cuffs, which were taken off only after remarks of human rights defenders. The guards took the youngster in the judge's room, where the case was considered. The human rights defenders weren't allowed to come there.

As a result of the court verdict, Mr. Yaromenak is obliged:

- to come to police on official summons and give explanations concerning the implementation of demands of preventive supervision;
- warn police about the change of the place of work and residence;
- leave his district (city) only on agreement of the police.

Authorized police officers can visit Mr. Yaromenak any time. The preventive supervision was established according to Article 196 of the Criminal-executive Code, after the ex-prisoner received three administrative penalties during a year. The last of them was 15-day arrest for participation in a performance near the Belarusian MFA, during which rolls of toilet paper were thrown at its building.
