Ivan Kruk Addresses High Commissioner for Human Rights
Ivan Kruk, a civil activist from Astravets, filed an
individual communication with the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the UN.
A copy of the communication was also sent to the Foreign Minister of the Republic
of Belarus.
In his application Mr. Kruk states that the regular mission of Belarus at the UN Office in Geneva appeals against the registration of
his individual complaint, filed with the UN on 23 December 2009.
Bear in mind that in 2009 Mr. Kruk was a founder of the civil initiative
against the construction of a nuclear power plant in Astravets and distributed
printed editions. As a result, he was levied with a fine for an alleged
administrative offense. The appeals to higher court instances brought no
results, after which Mr. Kruk applied to the UN.
Having received the appeal of the Belarusian authorities, the Human Rights
Committee sent a copy to Ivan Kruk (as provided by the Committee's rules). Mr.
Kruk replied to it with the individual communication, in which he asked the
Office of the High Commissioner to consider his complaint, as far as he still
supported it and submitted additional documents to support it.
