Assembly of NGOs refused from holding its congress
The organizing
committee of the Congress of the Belarusian Assembly of NGOs had to cancel the
even as it didn't manage to reach an agreement with the International
Educational Center (IBB), which refused to lend premises for the 7th
congress of the Assembly on 5-6 May.
IBB refused from the preliminary agreement two days before the event, referring
to an order from the Minsk City Executive Committee. The congress organizers
paid a visit to the executive committee in order to find about the reasons, but
didn't receive any answers.
The Belarusian Assembly of NGOs is the largest Belarusian association of NGOs
and civil initiatives which facilitates the democratic state-building. It was
established in 1997 and has more than 300 member organizations. The Assembly
was thrice denied registration in Belarus
and was registered in Lithuania
in 2011.
Representatives of almost 200 NGOs were going to take part in the assembly in
order to discuss problems of the civil society and ways for the development of
the non-state sector in Belarus.
They also intended to elect the new Working Group of the Assembly of NGOs.
