Polatsk: court deprives silent protester of driver’s license
On 4 May the Court of
Polatsk and the Polatsk district turned down the appeal of Yury Rudkouski
against the ruling of the road police, according to which he was deprived of the
right to drive for two years.
On 20 July Yury Rudkouski was detained after a silent protest action in
Navapolatsk and fined three basic units by the road police.
After this Navapolatsk road police issued four rulings, according to which he
was deprived of the right to drive for two years under parts 1 and 4 of Article
18.17 of the Code of Administrative Offences (“violation of the traffic rules
which resulted in inflicting light bodily injuries” and “leaving of the place
of the accident by the driver in the cases when it is prohibited by the legal
acts”).
Yury Rudkouski appealed against all these rulings. The court abolished the
three previous rulings. However, the fourth one, issued on 27 March by the
deputy head of the Navapolatsk City Police Department, lieutenant-colonel
Uladzimir Shendel, was left in force.
The trial started yesterday, on 3 May. However, the judge suddenly announced a
break till 4 May, allegedly in order to consider a motion. Yury Rudkouski
intends to appeal the court verdict at higher courts.
