Alena Kavalenka, wife of imprisoned opposition activist Siarhei Kavalenka, has been reportedly detained this morning outside the Vitsebsk Regional Court building, where an appeal against the activist’s prison term is expected to be heard today.
Alena Kavalenka was detained for reportedly writing “Freedom for Siarhei Kavalenka!” on the pavement outside the court building. Vitsebsk police also detained Siarhei Kavalenka’s cousin and local human rights defender Alena Semenchukova.
