The head of the Brest regional organization of the Free Trade Union of Belarus Valiantsin Lazarenkau received a letter from the university’s rector Mechyslau Chasnouski, in which the official demands to be provided with the list of all FTUB members working in the educational establishment.

The rector states that the trade union fees don’t come to the accountant’s office of the university, from which it can be concluded that FTUB members either left the organization or joined the official trade union. Valiantsin Lazarenkau, who was once dismissed from Brest State University because of his political and trade union activist, thinks that this letter can be a part of measures aimed at liquidation of the trade union organization.

According to Mr. Lazarenkau, earlier the FTUB unit at the university included about 100 members (at present there are just 37, and they don’t publicize their affiliation with the trade union not to lose their jobs), and rector Chasnouski is on the EU list of persona non grata because of violations of the rights of trade unions and persecution of students.
