Andrei Mouchan is accused of self-beating
Andrei Mouchan, an activist of "European
Belarus" civil campaign beaten by police, visited the Investigation
Committee.
“The conversation lasted for an hour. Committee officers spent most of the time
trying to expel my sister Volha from the office. They scolded at her and tried
to persuade politely. Finally, they said they would call police to draw an
administrative report against her.
They did not give any grounds banning my sister to stay in the office with me.
She left the office and waited me outside,” Mouchan told RFE/RL.
Andrei says: “They showed me the explanations regarding the events on 19 May I
had given earlier and asked if I confirmed them. I answered I confirm and they
said I would receive a recommendation for medical examination. I replied I was
on a sick leave and all documents describing my injures were in the emergency
hospital. The said I could have injured myself. It was clear they would try to
defend policemen by all means possible.”
On 19 May, Andrei Mouchan raised a
national white-red-white flag near Pershamaiski store in Uruchcha city district
to show solidarity with Siarhei Kavalenka.
Police detained and beat him brutally. According to a preliminary diagnose,
Andrei had a head injury, fractures of the lower jaw and ribs, injures from
blows to kidneys and legs.
On 25 May, Andrei Mouchan was discharged from hospital and sent to a
polyclinic. The discharge summary says he has only a mild brain injury while
broken jaw and other injuries are in question.
On 28 May, two police reports were drawn up against Mouchan. The reports accuse
him of violating Article 17.1 (swearing) and Article 23.34 (unauthorized
picket).
