Supreme Court turns down complaint against police stranglers
The Supreme Court has dismissed a complaint lodged by Uladzimir Marozau, who appealed a previous decision to deny prosecution of policemen who reportedly attempted to strangle the disabled person during his arrest on July 6, 2011.
The official reply signed by deputy chair of the Supreme Court Valery Kalinkovich says that Mr. Marozau “was not detained or arrested” at all. The judge also argues that the claimant failed to seek medical aid following the reported use of violence and therefore the incident “cannot be confirmed.” At the same time, the arrest was photographed by journalists and the photos clearly show that the police used violence against Uladzimir Marozau.
The complaint was lodged after on 12 January Minsk Pershamaiski District Court refused to initiate proceedings against the police stranglers.
