Zmitser Dashkevich throws a challenge to the system
In response to the possible instigation of a new
criminal case political prisoner Zmitser Dashkevich composed an appeal to the
head of the penal colony, which he mockingly called “Acknowledgment of Guilt”.
On 6 July the administration of penal colony #13 in Hlybokaye, where the leader
of the “Young Front” Zmitser Dashkevich is serving his prison term, passed materials
concerning bringing an administrative case under part 1 of Article 411, “non-abidance
by the prison regime”, to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of
Belarus. His fiancée Nasta Palazhanka learned it after today’s meeting with
Zmitser at the colony.
Almost immediately after his placement in a brigade Zmitser Dashkevich was put
in a penal cell for 13 days. As he found later, several days of keeping in the
penal cell were added for the alleged violations he had committed earlier. In
response to the possible instigation of a new criminal case Mr. Dashkevich
composed the following document for the administration of the penal colony:
Acknowledgment of Guilt
I, Dashkevich D.V., plead guilty in consciously refusing form implementing
certain demands of the colony administration which I consider to be unlawful.
In order to facilitate the work of provocateurs, agents and the Investigative
Committee, I refuse to execute any demands of the administration of any colony
in which I will be kept.
I advise the Belarusian security services to sentence me to a maximal term,
provided by Article 411 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus,
bringing criminal cases against me in each new colony.
Zmitser Dashkevich,
10 July 2012
If Zmitser Dashkevich is found guilty under this article, another year can be
added to his prison term. Bear in mind that he had been sentenced to two years
of jail following his detention on the eve of the presidential election of 2012
and the present term ends on 18 December 2012.
