Mikalai Autukhovich: “No one can intimidate me”

The politician writes cheerful letters, says he is ready to anything and is not going to change his views.

At the end of June Mr. Autukhovich had a meeting with his mother and sister. “Everything was good, but the prison guards didn't accept the 30-kilo food parcel from the mother they had allowed to bring. I received a letter from her – she is very anxious and worried that she has been mislead in such a way. This is the worst news,” he writes.

As to his health, Mikalai Autukhovich writes that “it is as good as possible”, as he doesn't like to complain even if he has some problems. What concerns the prison conditions, he writes that everything is relative: “If you know history, it is easy to imagine how people were kept in prison earlier, but if we compare with Scandinavian prisons, our people live worse than their prisoners. What concerns rights, money and everything else – I always compare the Belarusian prisons with the German concentration camps and feel I am in heaven. Everything is good, but I don't wish such challenges to anyone.”

The political prisoner tries to keep the track of the Belarusian and international news. He tried to watch the dynamics of the football tournament “Euro-2012”, though he is rarely allowed to watch TV. Despite all difficulties, the prisoner remains optimistic: “I can state: nothing can intimidate me. I am ready to anything. I won't change my views. I hope that soon everything will change and the power will really belong to the people. How much should one hate one's people to keep the prisons full all the time?”
