Lawyer has no access to Surapin for two days
A lawyer was not allowed to see his client Anton Surapin in the KGB jail on July 25 and 26.
BelaPAN learned it from the mother of the jailed photographer.
According to Alena Surapina, there's a long queue of lawyers wanting to meet with their clients in the KGB jail, which does not have enough visiting rooms. The lawyer will make another attempt to see Anton on July 27. Anton's parents still don't know if he was presented with charges.
As charter97.org already reported, a Swedish light plane dropped teddy bears with pro-democracy leaflets in Belarus on July 4. The Ministry of Defence of Belarus said no facts of intrusion into Belarus;s airspace were recorded and labelled the video of the flight on the Internet a hoax.
Anton Surapin was among the first to publish photos of teddy bears on the Internet. The young man was detained on July 13 and thrown in the KGB jail. His home was searched. He is suspected of aiding in illegal crossing the border.
The photojournalist may face up to 7 years in prison.
