“The prison administration said that he was put in
a penal cell for 7 days and will be released in three days. The reasons are not
known to me,” said his counsel.
It is not the first such penalty for Yauhen Vaskovich. His friends from the
Belarusian Christian Democracy consider it as a revenge of the authorities for
the refusal to write a pardon appeal to Lukashenka.
Yauhen Vaskovich, a journalist of the “Babruiski Kur’yer” newspaper, was
sentenced to 7 days of imprisonment for an attempt of arson of the Babruisk KGB
department. Two more people, Pavel Syramalotau and Artsiom Prakapenka, were
convicted on this case together with him. Pavel Syramalotau was pardoned by
Lukashenka and released from jail.
