Supreme Economic Court turns down complaint by Baranavichy activist
On November 13 the
Supreme Economic Court heard the cassation appeal lodged by Baranavichy
businessman Mikalai Charnavus against the administration of the city’s private market.
As a result, Judge Kiyenka examined the case in only five minutes and ruled to dismiss
the complaint.
For
almost a year, entrepreneur and civil activist Mikalai Charnavus has been
trying to challenge the election of the Council of individual entrepreneurs at
the market – first at regular courts, and now at the economic courts of various
levels. In
his lawsuits, the activist argued that the Council members were appointed by
the administration of the market, not elected by the general meeting of
entrepreneurs, as required by law.
“On August 9, the Economic Court of Brest Region dismissed my suit against the
administration of Baranavichy private market. Today, on 13
November, the same has been done by the Supreme Economic Court. So
now, in accordance with the legislation, I will address chairman of the Supreme
Economic Court to prove that the election of the Council members in December
2011 was unfair and illegal,” says Mikalai Charnavus.
