Ukrainian student leader not let in Belarus
The president of the Ukrainian student
self-government association Lizaveta Shchepetylnykova was not let in
Belarus where she intended to meet with student activists.
According to Tovarishch.online»,
the Belarusian border guards told Shchepetylnykova that she was
prohibited to enter the territory of Belarus.
The reasons for
the ban weren't explained. Instead of it, Shchepetylnykova was
questioned about the aims of her visit to Belarus for about an hour.
She was kept in the building of the border service for 3.5 hours. In
the morning she was put on an electric train to the nearest Ukrainian
station, Hornostayivka, with a deportation seal in her passport.
“I
was put off a train to Minsk and deported to the Ukraine, being told
that I was banned from entering the territory of Belarus... Probably,
we do something right in our work,” wrote Shchepetylnykova in her
Twitter account.
Lizaveta Shchepetylnykova is a coach on
issues of student self-government. She was a member of the expert
team of the European Student Union ant the Council of Europe during
the 2010 visit to Belarus and has been working in the working group
of the European Student Union on development of the student movement
in Belarus for two years already.
