BCD activist Siarhei Malashonak intends to hold a rally in support of political prisoners in Navapolatsk
Siarhei Malashonak, an
activist of the organizing committee of the party Belarusian
Christian Democracy, applied to the Navapolatsk City Executive
Committee for the authorization of a street action in support of
political prisoners in Belarus.
The action is dated to the
second anniversary of the post-election protests of 19 December 2010.
The applicant asks to authorize the action at 5-7 p.m. on Budauniki
Square.
Polatsk and Navapolatsk activists also demand the
release of Andrei Haidukou, 23-year-old worker of the “Naftan”
enterprise, deputy head of the unregistered community “Union of
Young Intellectuals”, detained on 8 November for “state treachery
in the form of intelligence activities”. At present he is kept in
the pre-trial prison of KGB.
A criminal case has been
initiated against him. However, Haidukou's friends and relatives
don't believe that he could really take part in such activities and
consider these events as an attempt to intimidate youth activists.
Such concern is based on the fact that prior to the arrest Andrei
Haidukou had been summonsed to talks with “people in mufti”, who
threatened him with trouble in the places of work and study.
