Kanstantsin Zhukouski asks Homel procuracy to check the legality of the dismantling of old houses
The civil activist Kanstantsin Zhukouski applied to the Tsentralny
District Prosecutor's Office of Homel with the request to check the
legality of the dismantlement of the wooden houses in Valatouskaya
Street.
These houses are examples of a unique wooden
architecture, characteristic for the southeastern part of Belarus.
Citizens have repeatedly tried to turn the attention of the
authorities to the need to save these houses and give them the status
of historical and cultural heritage. However, at the end of November
the dismantling of the houses started.
The activist attached a
video of the process of dismantling to his application.
“I
have an answer from the Ministry of Culture, which witnesses that the
procedure of consideration of assigning the status of historical and
cultural heritage was being conducted towards houses #23 and #25 in
Valatouskaya Street, which automatically prohibits any actions which
could inflict harm to these houses. The video witnesses that the
dismantling was conducted with numerous violations of the building
norms and rules, as well as the rules of urban maintenance – the
construction site was not fenced off, garbage was lying everywhere, a
lamppost was undermined and could fall any time do harm to the health
and property of citizens. The construction site was not fenced off
and set in conformity with the legal requirements. I ask You to
conduct a check-up on this fact and punish the guilty,” writes
Kanstantsin Zhukouski.
