Photographer detained at UCP’s action in Minsk
Photographer Henadz Veratsinski was detained by the police yesterday during an information action held by the activists of the United Civil Party in Minsk, the BelaPAN news agency reports.
The UCP activists had submitted 91 bids for holding pickets across the country on 19 December. 25 pickets were expected to be held in Minsk. However, none of the pickets was authorized, and the activists decided to hold information actions, which do not require permission from the authorities.
According to the UCP leader Anatol Liabedzka, the actions were held to “remind the people about the events of 19 December, 2012, when dozens thousand citizens came to the Square to protest against the false election results, as well as to make them remember political prisoners Zmitser Dashkevich, Ihar Alinevich, Mikalai Statkevich and others, to show the people what is actually happening beside the seeming prosperity advertized by government officials and state-owned media.”
