Brest city executive committee has banned a number of pickets expected to demand quicker implementation of local border traffic with the neighboring Poland.

According to one of the initiators of the pickets Ihar Maslouski, the events were scheduled for 21, 22 and 23 December outside the city’s central department store. The activists were expected to collect petitions to be submitted to the members of the House of Representatives, whose constituencies are located within the 50 km border area, urging the MPs to foster the introduction of simplified border crossing procedures.

“The response of the city executive committee says that the pickets were banned on the grounds that they were scheduled in a location that is not meant for such events. But it is useless to campaign in authorized locations, because there are no people at all there,” says Ihar Maslouski.
