Fair World Zhlobin members appeal picket ban at UN Human Rights Committee
The UN Human
Rights Committee has accepted a joint complaint by Zhlobin members of the party
“Fair World” submitted to challenge a decision by the local executive committee
to ban a number of pickets in 2012. This
was announced by the head of the party’s district office Valery Rybchanka.
“We
sent a complaint last month and recently received the answer that our
complaints were received,” says Mr. Rybchanka. “The
complaints concerned both the bans on our pickets in support of political
prisoners and those that we were going to stage regarding falsification of the
presidential elections in 2010. We
went through all the domestic courts, and so we decided to go to the UN.”
Now
the party activists are waiting for their complaints to be registered by the
Committee, expected next month.
This
is not the first time that Zhlobin members of the Party of the Left “Fair World
submit complaints to the UN Human Rights Committee against bans to hold pickets
imposed by local authorities. Similar
complaints were considered by the Committee in 2011 and 2012.
