MEP Marek Migalski writes to Belarus’ MFA to request meeting with political prisoners
Member
of the European Parliament Marek Migalski, who initiated a campaign of solidarity
with two Belarusian political prisoners – leader of the “Young Front” Zmitser
Dashkevich and former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich – has addressed
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking for an opportunity to meet with them in
prison.
Marek
Migalski stresses that he is deputy member of the European Parliament’s
Delegation for Relations with Belarus, and is very interested in the situation
of political prisoners. He
is particularly concerned about the fate of Mikalai Statkevich and Zmitser Dashkevich,
because the media have repeatedly informed that the opposition figures are
harassed by the prison administrations and subjected to pressure, isolated from
the outside world and kept in harsh conditions.
Mr. Migalski says he wants to meet with the prisoners of
conscience, see the conditions of their imprisonment, as well as to look at
their physical and mental health.
