Yauhen Vaskovich’s Babruisk friends suspect political prisoner doesn’t receive all letters
The friends and associates of political prisoner Yauhen Vaskovich once again express their doubt that all their letters reach their destination.
Late last year, Yauhen Vaskovich asked in the letters to send him printouts of a number of historical articles. Apart from that, in a letter to his former colleague at the newspaper “Babruiski Kurier” Alesya Skapintsava he asked to send him phone and postal codes of Belarus. In Yauhen’s reply that came this year he thanks for the Christmas card that he received separately, but says nothing of the letter. Still, the most surprising was the fact that inside the envelope signed by Vaskovich’s hand were the same printouts that he had requested.
Yauhen Vaskovich’s friends and associates say that letters addressed to him are still subject to censorship. It is most likely that he can only receive postcards at the moment.
“It’s hard to say what’s really going on with our letters to Yauhen, but I haven’t got any, either. Even after filing a complaint to the Regional Public Oversight Commission of the General Directorate of Justice,” says Anatol Sanatsenka, editor-in-chief of the “Babruiski Kurier”.
