Minsk city organization of the Belarusian Christan Democracy holds constituent assembly
The constituent assembly of the
civil-educational association "Movement "Belarusian
Christian Democracy" took place in Minsk on 31 January.
"The
activities of the organization will cover the territory of Minsk. We
want to legalize the activities of the Minsk city organization of the
organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy"
party by acquiring an official registration," stated the
responsible secretary of the BCD Dzianis Sadouski.
According
to him, the constituent assembly was recorded on video in order the
confirm to the Minsk of Justice that the event had really taken
place. "It is difficult for me to imagine any possible reasons
for registration denial," said Mr. Sadouski.
Halina
Karzhaneuskaya was elected the head of the NGO.
In 2009 the
organizing committee of the BCD Party held two constituent assemblies
in order to get registered with the state. However, the Ministry of
Justice refused to register the party. Due to the danger of
persecution under Article 193-1 of the Criminal Code (activities on
behalf of unregistered organization) and the impossibility to obtain
a legal status for the party, the organizing committee decided to try
obtaining registration for its regional structures as civil
organizations. The appropriate attempt have been made in the
Vitsebsk, Mahiliou and Hrodna region, but have brought no results.
