Lidziya Yarmoshyna says village Soviets can be liquidated
According to the head of the Central
Election Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna the possibility of the
liquidation of village and settlement Soviets was discussed at a
council on amendment of the electoral legislation, held by Aliaksandr
Lukashenka.
In her interview to the TV channel "Belarus-1"
she stated that the liquidation of these Soviets was quite possible
as "it is very difficult to find future candidates for the
Soviets and ensure the work of these representatives organs which
have quite small powers".
The latest elections to the
local Soviets were held in Belarus 2010. 15342 people were elected to
1288 village Soviets and 754 – to 56 settlement Soviets.
The
next election to local Soviets is scheduled for the year 2014.
According to Yarmoshyna, all amendments to the electoral legislation
must be introduced by the middle of November 2013, after which the
preparation to the new electoral campaign will start.
