Babruiskers are concerned with the state of the local architectural monuments
An initiative group of
like-minded people, concerned with the state of architectural
monuments, has formed in Babruisk.
Its activists are preparing
documents for the registration of the local branch of the Belarusian
voluntary society to protect the monuments of culture and
history.
First of all, the volunteers will try to solve the
issue of the Jesuit church located on the territory of the Babruisk
castle, and the acting church of the Immaculate Conception of Virgin
Mary.
The fist of them has been kept in a neglected state for
a long time and has burned several times during the several last
years, because it is not guarded despite its being registered as a
historical monument of Belarus.
The parishioners haven't also
been able to solve the problem of the church of the Immaculate
Conception of Our Lady (constructed in 1901-1903) for a long time.
During the Soviet rule an administrative building was attached to the
church entrance, where state and private institutions are situated
now. The accessory building not only spoils the outlook of the
church, but also creates some inconveniences for believers.
The
activists of the newly established initiative group state they will
first of all struggle to get the church registered as a historical
and cultural monument.
"It was an unpleasant discovery
for me that there are Babruisk citizens who have lived their whole
lives in the city, but have never visited the Babruisk castle. They
are unaware of the architectural monuments around them which need to
be urgently saved from destruction. We will try to deliver this
information to the public," says the local historian Ihar
Tkachou.
