According to statkevich.org, on 8 February the former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich phoned his relatives.

"The telephone call was short. Mikalai presented the latest news in a very laconic, telegraph way. First of all, he stated that some provocations and attempts to put "suspicious" people in his cell renewed.

At present this is a "specially trained" (according to prisoners) former officer of security services, who is known for a very severe attitude to cell-mates, whom he subjected to mockery and beating.

Mikalai Statkevich stated he would demand to be kept in the conditions secure from unlawful actions of the prison administration. Moreover, as stated by his wife, Maryna Adamovich, Mr. Statkevich is threatened with another penalty for "exercising psychological pressure".

The prison administration had given him the same charges in summer. However, they seem to have understood the absurdity of such accusations, as a result of which he was sentenced to ten days in a penal cell "for counteraction of the regime actions of the administration".

Mikalai Statkevich thinks that the latest events around him, as well as the unlawful restrictions on passing the foodstuffs are directly linked to the latest proposal of the prison administration to write a clemency petition for Lukashenka.

"Usually, after such proposals I start having problems with prison badges or handkerchiefs", pointed the political prisoner. "That's why I expected something of the king". It also became known that Mikalai Statkevich had sent a letter to Uladzimir Niakliayeu in response to his letter.

"He sent a copy of the letter to me in order to increase the possibility of its receipt by the addressee," said Maryna Adamovich.

Mikalai Statkevich hasn't seen the open letter of Vital Rymasheuski yet. "Maybe it was absent in the printed editions received by Mikalai, or he hasn't received them for some reasons. In fact, I didn't manage to find out or tell him anything, the call was unexpected and very short. I can hope to receive the next one not earlier than in a month. Moreover, in January I started having problems with the mail correspondence, which can also be connected to the well-known emotional statements of the well-known officials," commented Maryna Adamovich.
