Belarusian Christian Democracy calls to hold a "Wave of Solidarity" with political prisoners
The
Belarusian Hhristian Democracy holds a "Wave of Solidarity"
with prisoners of consciousness. Various actions will be held on a
daily basis in 35 towns and cities of Belarus on 12 February – 24
March.
According to one of the BCD leaders Vital Rymasheuski,
the aim of the marathon is to draw the public attention to the issue
of political prisoners:
"We call on all concerned people
to join the action. Political parties can hold political events, NGOs
can hold actions in their own format, we call on the Christian
churches of all denominations to serve masses, urge common people to
make flash-mobs, any actions they can. The main result is every new
person who'll send a letter of support to a political prisoner, sign
for his release through Internet or in person, who will join the
"Wave of Solidarity".
According
to the Belarusian human rights defenders, 11 people continue to be
kept in the Belarusian prisons for political reasons, including the
former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich, the head of the
Human Rigths Center "Viasna" Ales Bialiatski, the Vaukavusk
entrepreneur and civil activist Mikalai Autukhovich and so on.
