Political prisoner Yauhen Vaskovich spent more than 150 days in penal cell
Yauhen Vaskovich has been kept in the
penal cell almost every fourth day of his conviction since the
announcement of the verdict. He has received more than 40 reprimands
and has been put in the penal cell for more than 20 times. As a
result, according to the responsible secretary of the Belarusian
Christian Democracy Dzianis Sadouski, he spent there more than 150
days.
"If we count mathematically, Yauhen Vaskovich
spends each fourth day of his conviction in the penal cell. We are
shocked by it and therefore voice this information. Of course, we
will take some measures, including informing the international
community about what is going on in the Belarusian prisons. This
again confirms the importance of the marathon "Wave of
Solidarity" we are holding now.
Yauhen Vaskovich was
sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment together with Artsiom Prakapenka
and Pavel Syramalotau for an attempt to set afire the doors of the
Babruisk KGB Department. In September 2012 Pavel Syramalotau was
released after writing a pardon petition for Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
Artsiom Prakapenka and Yauhen Vaskovich have refused to write such
petitions so far.
