The trial of Stanislau Laurenau and Aliaksei Kishchuk, activists of the Belarusian Christian Democracy facing administrative charges for illegal picketing in central Vitsebsk on Friday afternoon, will be resumed on 21 February, after Judge Ina Hrabouskaya met the defendants’ motion requesting a counsel.
The pro-democratic activists were charged under Art. 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences for displaying a banner “Freedom!” in the city’s Liberty Square. Both were shortly detained by the police and had to spend three nights in at the detention center.
The event was staged as part of the BCD’s campaign of pickets to demand the release of political prisoners.
