Mahiliou authorities ban Freedom Day festivities
Mrs. Ala Halushka, head of the ideology department of Mahiliou city executive committee, told local pro-democratic activists about the reasons to ban public celebrations on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the Belarusian National Republic. It turns out that such activities should be included in the annual plan. If there is no such event in the plan, the authorities cannot help.
Yury Novikau, chairman of the Coordination Council of Mahiliou Regional Coalition of Democratic Forces, said that ignoring such action by the authorities is a manifestation of savagery.
“The people who do not know their roots are said to be tribeless, as they do not remember their ancestors. This is how you can describe the measures of Mahiliou city executive committee. The city is recognized as the cultural capital of CIS countries and Belarus. They could for at least one year remember their roots and be educated people,” said Yury Novikau.
The leader of Mahiliou democrats said that he was going to prepare a letter to the city authorities, so that next year’s celebration of the 96th anniversary of the Belarusian People’s Republic was added by officials to the annual plan.
