Maryna Adamovich: Paleckis should demand meeting with political prisoners

Maryna Adamovich, the wife of political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, believes Justas Paleckis, European Parliament’s Rapporteur on Belarus, should meet with Belarusian prisoners of conscience, the Charter-97 website reports.

According to Maryna Adamovich, only that can allow him have an objective picture of what is happening in our country. Without meeting with opposition leaders and activists, who are now behind bars, Justas Paleckis’ visit is useless.

“All the missions of European officials, including EU officials, to Minsk only make sense if they meet with political prisoners. It is clear that the Europeans need to visit Belarus in order to get information about what is happening here. But for this information to be objective, they need to talk to political prisoners,” says Mrs. Adamovich.

Justas Paleckis’ visit to Minsk started on March 18.
