Prosecutor General's Office unable to impose liability on Presidential Administration officials

The Presidential Administration violates the law “On Public Appeals”, however the Prosecutor General's Office has no right to bring to justice its officials, suggest a response received from the Prosecutor General’s Office by civil society activist Aliaksei Paulouski. The official letter offers to appeal the alleged violation of the Code in the Presidential Administration, instead.

Aliaksei Paulouski, in turn, says he submitted his statement to the Presidential Administration nearly two months ago, but has not yet received any response since.

“I sent a collective appeal to the Presidential Administration. All the petitioners, including myself, asked to awarded the head of the Central Election Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna the medal “Hero of Belarus” for having provided another “elegant” victory pro-government candidates and thus saved a lot of public money, not allowing a second round of voting,” says Aliaksei Paulouski.

The activist says he will go to court to demand administrative proceedings against the President’s Office for violation of the Law “On Public Appeals”.

“I believe that they have not  given any answer, because they do not respect Lidziya Yarmoshyna, discriminate against her as a woman and do not even feel it necessary to give her some answers,” says Aliaksei Paulouski.

Human rights defender Barys Bukhel says the response received by Paulouski shows that the country has formed a group of untouchable officials. “For me, the answer was a complete surprise, since it implies that the Prosecutor General's Office has the right to monitor all government agencies except the Presidential Administration. This nonsense was formed from the fact that Art. 125 of the Constitution does not provide that the Prosecutor General’s Office has the right to control the organs established by the President,” says Barys Bukhel.
