Family of UCP Babruisk leader detained at border
Viktar Buzinayeu, the leader of the Babruisk office of the United Civil Party, was detained, together with his daughter and wife, this morning while crossing the Belarusian border on his way from Kiev to Babruisk. Ukrainian border guards have been no problems, and Belarusian interested in brochures, which lay at the side door of the car.
“They found a book of Niakliayeu’s poetry, several booklets “What Europe can do for Belarus?” and a number of books on Belarusian legislation. They asked to leave the car, and we were taken to a separate room and kept there for four hours,” says Natallia Buzinayeva, the wife of the UCP’s Babruisk leader.
During the four-hour detention, the activist and his family had to provide written explanations for these brochures. However, the editions were not returned.
“The border troops said they were going to examine the literature. And when they do it, they will send us an answer. We were very surprised by this procedure, because the booklets and Niakliayeu’s poems do not pose any threat, while similar checks, on the contrary, only cause obstacles to people. We planned to be home as early as 9 a.m., and in the end we will come only in the afternoon,” says Mrs. Natallia Buzinayeva.
