Brest citizens proposed the local authorities to publish the budgets of all levels in the press and the internet and subject the reports on them to public discussions.

As stated by an organizer of the collection of signatures Uladzimir Vuyek, the reason for the appeal was that the local authorities ignore the legal demands concerning the publicity of the adopted budget values. "Pitifully enough, at present the numbers in the city budget are closed information for Brest residents", stated Mr. Vuyek. "We are struggling to make such documents, both of the local and the national level, accessible for common people, as they have the right to know what their taxes are spent on and how the budget means are distributed".

According to the activist, the appeal will be passed to Brest City Executive Committee and Brest City Council after gathering several thousand signatures of citizens.
