Informal coalition of minorities created in Belarus
The coalition is not shaped by specific agreements, but by a number of organizations and communities that integrate minorities, from people with disabilities to the representatives of different sexual orientations, who are working together to develop a draft anti-discrimination law, Radio Racyja reports.
The coalition is led by the Office for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
“It is we who are now talking about this. We speak about this in a coalition with many other organizations. Because we understand that it is impossible to solve the problem of discrimination in a small sphere without ensuring a common approach. It is just impossible. And today we are working out common approaches to the understanding of discrimination, to the proposals of the relevant legislation,” says a representative of the Office and one of the leaders of the National Association of Wheelchair Users Siarhei Drazdouski.
After revision and discussion the draft anti-discrimination law, which is being created with assistance from the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, is expected to be sent to government representatives.
